Summary

Actify is looking for a talented Software Engineer with experience delivering backend services for enterprise web applications.  You will join the team responsible for building and maintaining Actify’s Centro software product, as well as implementing new platform features to support our hybrid-cloud solution.

 

In the role, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects allowing you to gain experience in multiple areas of software development.  You can expect a healthy mix of activities, including conducting R&D, using cloud services to design and implement new services and web APIs, and making improvements in the existing code base.

Role Description

The Software Engineer reports to the Centro Engineering Manager. Duties will include:

• Design and implement new services and web APIs using ASP.NET and Azure cloud services.
• Work on our evolving code base to implement enhancements, resolve bugs, and develop new features.
• Conduct R&D to identify new technologies and techniques for improving our products and services.
• Follow our best practices and maintain code-quality standards.
• Work closely with other members of the team to ensure the successful delivery of projects.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance and support to junior team members as needed.
• Engage with and contribute to technical and product discussions.

 

Essential Skills

• Extensive experience using C# or another high-level programming language
• Strong knowledge of web applications and services, including JavaScript, HTML, REST web APIs, HTTP.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Familiarity with modern software development practices, such as agile methodologies and version control.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with others
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously

 

Desirable Skills (not essential but having one or more is an advantage)

• Experience with ASP.NET MVC and WebAPI
• JavaScript frameworks such as Angular, Angular.js or React
• Experience with 3rd-party application integrations and cloud services
• NoSQL databases: ArangoDB/AQL is a big plus but experience with any document or graph databases would be great (mongodb, neo4j, etc)
• Any background in developing or integrating with BI, CAD, ERP, CRM or PLM/PDM systems.

 

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 4 years of software engineering experience

 

Position Details

This position is based in the UK.  We accommodate remote work from anywhere in the UK, including fully remote staff, or you can be based in our Edinburgh office.

 

Occasional international travel will be required.  Remote staff are required to travel to our office in Edinburgh periodically (approximately 4 – 6 times per year).
